Aristion belongs to the Archaic period, the athlte that crowns himself was made in the first years of the classic period and Dexileo belongs to the classical period (4th century).Aristion and Dexileo were soldiers.Aristion was a hoplite. We can see all of the traditional greek hoplite equipment: protective shin guards, called greaves, on his legs, protective body armour, and a spear, as well as the felt skull-cap to cushion the helmet. He doesn't have a spear and a helmet though. His legs seem to be stuck to the ground and his left hand is stuck to his body. With his right habd he holds his spear.Generally, there is not much movement. The naked athlete combines characteristics from both Archaic and classical period. His head is shown in profile but his eye en face, which is an archaic characteristic. On the other hand, the spiritual depth of its sight indicates that it probably follows the severe style, which marks the beginning of the classic period.Dexilio was fighting on a horse, which means that he was probably a rich citizen. He was probably charging against his oponent with his spear. This sculpt has much movement, which is a characterictic of the classic period.
